Chris Nelson: Army Service to Country Songwriting
My Story
I am a down-to-earth country boy from the foothills of North Georgia. Growing up in a tight-knit family that loved country music, I was raised on the tunes of legends like Charley Pride, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Johnny Cash. Those songs planted a deep love for country music in my heart.
At seventeen, I gave up a musical dream and joined the Army to serve this great country. I saw a lot out there, facing the realities of war while at the same time traveling the world and gaining new experiences. Those experiences gave me a strong pride for my country, veterans and really influenced my songwriting.
For over twenty years, I’ve been quietly writing songs that reflect the everyday life we all know. My melodies blend the timeless stories of country music with the latest sounds you hear today. Whether it’s about love, heartbreak, or those simple moments that make life special, my music aims to connect with you and bring comfort or joy when you need it.

Let The Music Begin
My single, "No Flag Higher," is a deeply personal tribute to my Army brothers and sisters who never made it home. The song has struck a chord with listeners, nearing two million streams on Spotify and continues to inspire pride in our nation’s flag and the sacrifices made for it. “No Flag Higher” was also honored as a semi-finalist for the ISC Song of the Year, while my single, "Shiftin' Gears," was a semi-finalist in Nashville's "Unsigned Only" song competition.
In 2025, I won the American Songwriter Magazine's Love Song Of The Year contest, a milestone that further affirmed my path as a storyteller. My song "Let It Ring" was also recorded and is being released by Country Star Megan Knight showcasing my work in front of some of Nashville's biggest artist.
At the heart of my songwriting is authenticity—real stories told with grit, heart, and honesty. I draw from life experiences, especially the blue-collar resilience and small-town values that shaped me, to write songs that connect with people on a personal level.
